The Mother Tree Way™
A leadership philosophy rooted in nature, not extraction.
What Is a Mother Tree?
In old-growth forests, the oldest, most established trees are called Mother Trees.
Elders of the forest, these trees connect to hundreds of younger trees through an underground network of fungal threads called the Mycelium. Through this network, a Mother Tree senses which of her neighbours are struggling and sends them exactly what they need, carbon, nutrients, even chemical warnings about danger nearby. She doesn't compete for the light. She redistributes it.
This is not a metaphor I invented. It's a biological fact, and it changed how I see leadership.
A forest without its Mother Trees is more fragile, less able to recover from drought, disease, or damage. A forest with them regenerates.
You are the Mother Tree for your organization.
And your organization is one for your cause.
My leadership philosophy
The Mother Tree Way™
Leadership was never meant to be extraction. That model came from somewhere. Colonialism, patriarchy and extractive capitalism taught us to rule by dividing: people from their land, women from their bodies, communities from each other. We were taught to call that leadership.
The Mother Tree Way™ is how we rewild it, and restore the feminine leadership intelligence that was always there underneath. It treats leadership as a living system, shaped by cycles of growth, rest and renewal, the same cycles nature has been demonstrating since the beginning, the same cycles our grandmothers lived by before we were taught to override them
It rests on three roots. Each one restores a connection that divide and rule broke, and each one grows a different kind of power.
Rooted Wholeness | Your inner power
Before you can lead anyone else, or anything else, you have to come home to your own body, your own worth, your own knowing. Not the version of you that performs competence. The one underneath it. This is where self-regulation and self-trust become the ground your leadership stands on.
Reciprocal Relationships | Your relational power
Leadership was never meant to be a hierarchy you climb alone, or a team you carry alone. It's a web you tend: partnerships, alliances and a community built on exchange instead of extraction, the same matriarchal models of support our grandmothers practiced long before it had a name. This is how your impact multiplies beyond what you could ever hold on your own.
Rhythmic Wisdom | Your public power
Nature doesn't sprint, and neither should you, or the organization you're building. This is leadership that moves in cycles, not deadlines, and trusts the season you're actually in. It's also the wisdom of timing your influence: knowing what to seed, when to speak, at what cadence, and how your voice can shape the systems around you.
This is the remembering.
And it changes everything.
You don't have to lead like a lone tree fighting for light.
You were always meant to lead like a Mother Tree,
rooted, connected, and in season.
FAQS
-
In ecology, rewilding means restoring land that's been cleared and exploited until it can sustain itself again. Rewilding leadership means the same thing for the way we lead: clearing away the extractive habits we inherited and restoring the feminine intelligence that was always there underneath, so leaders and their organizations can regenerate instead of running down.
-
Because burnout isn't a personal failing. Most of us were trained into a way of leading built on those systems: power as control, worth as output, growth at any cost. Naming where that model came from is the first step to leading differently. My quarrel isn't with ambition or with women having money. It's with extraction.
-
Regenerative leadership gives back more than it takes, from you, from your people, and from the systems you're part of. Instead of extracting output until something breaks, it works in cycles of growth, rest and renewal, so the leader, the team and the mission can keep regenerating.
-
Feminine leadership intelligence is the knowing that gets overridden when leadership is taught only as hustle, output and control. It's intuition, connection, reciprocity and rhythm, the same intelligence our grandmothers practiced long before it had a name. It's not about gender. It's about restoring a way of leading that values wholeness as much as achievement.
-
No. The Mother Tree Way™ draws on feminine leadership intelligence, qualities like intuition, connection and reciprocity, and these aren't limited by gender. My own work centers women, because the world needs more of us in power. Anyone leading from extraction rather than regeneration can benefit from rooting into this way of working.
-
Most leadership frameworks are built for output: faster decisions, tighter systems, more scalable growth. The Mother Tree Way™ starts somewhere else, with the leader's capacity to sustain what she's building, and the relationships and voice that let her power ripple outward. It's not a productivity system. It's a way of leading that regenerates instead of depletes.
-
The concept comes from forest ecology, most notably the research of ecologist Dr. Suzanne Simard, who discovered that older, established trees in a forest are connected to younger trees through underground fungal networks, and actively share resources through them. It's a real, observable phenomenon, not a metaphor invented for leadership.
